About Us

Launched in 2013, Ignite NC emerged out of a youth and student movement addressing issues of voter suppression, lack of representation of the marginalized, and a belief that young people are capable of shaping a better future for us all. We are an organization for 18 -30 year olds invested in shifting the cultural and political present and future. We are black and people of color, queer, transgender and gender non-conforming. We are women, femme, and working class. We are students, community members, and stake holders in the future of North Carolina.

We believe that in order to create the kind of future we all deserve, we must understand our past, defend the gains made by those who came before us, and ignite and empower everyday people to build towards a fair and just future. A future that sees all of us as part of a legacy of change. We view youth as leaders who are capable of articulating their struggles and creating tangible solutions.

When those most affected by injustice are the leaders who find and implement solutions, we will create a sustainable world. We cultivate young leaders, build skills, and share an intersectional analysis that shifts policy, practice, and behavior in order to achieve and sustain gains.

We empower young people with basic organizing skills to aid in the transformation of culture and policy throughout the state of North Carolina. Through  our fellowship program we convene folks from across the state for relationship building, analysis cultivation, and collaborative visioning. Our state wide and localized support launches emerging leaders into communities with the tools to develop and support initiatives and campaigns on a local and state level.
